GOREU continues meetings with indigenous organizations to access financing to help reduce deforestation of our forests

Within the framework of the Ucayali REDD+ Jurisdictional Program that is being built in a participatory and informed manner in the 4 provinces of the Ucayali Region, with the participation of the main organizations representing indigenous peoples of the Ucayali Region, on September 9 of this year, a in the city of Pucallpa, the seventh informative meeting on the roadmap of the participatory process for the design of the Ucayali Jurisdictional REDD+ Program, whose main objective is to access financing to reduce the deforestation of our forests.

Within this context, the representatives of the indigenous organizations of the Ucayali Region highlighted the importance of accessing climate financing directly; in addition to being trained to facilitate the information process with the communities in their native languages.

Representatives of the Regional Organization AIDESEP – ORAU, the Native Federation of Kakataibo Communities – FENACOKA, the Regional Organization of Amazonian Nationalities of Ucayali – ORNAU, base of the national organization of the Confederation of Amazonian Nationalities of Peru – CONAP, the Federation of Native Communities of Ucayali and Tributaries – FECONAU and the national organization Interethnic Association for the Development of the Peruvian Jungle – AIDESEP.

Previously, on September 6, a face-to-face meeting was held in the city of Atalaya with the assistance of more than 20 representatives of indigenous peoples belonging to the Regional Union of Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon of the Province of Atalaya – URPIA; the Indigenous Federation of the Inuya and Mapuya Rivers – FIARIM; the Federation of Asheninka Native Communities of the Province of Atalaya – FECONAPA; the Ashaninka Lower Urubamba Federation – FABU; and the Multisectoral Federation of Andean-Amazonian Farmers of the Ucayali, Pasco, Junín – Gran Pajonal border – FEMAFUJP. Also, on September 2, the Association of Native Communities for the Integral Development of Yurúa – ACONADYISH and the Federation of Native Communities of Purús – FECONAPU were convened for a virtual meeting.

During this meeting, the leaders highlighted the work carried out by the Regional Government of Ucayali to improve transparency and consultation with the communities through their organizations, to generate trust and guarantee the greater participation of indigenous peoples in the construction of the REDD+ Jurisdictional Program. from Ucayali.

The leaders made their inquiries and contributions on this document and requested that a team of indigenous facilitators who have previously received technical training be counted on for the stage of informational meetings and collection of contributions, which begins in October.

The leaders also requested that all indigenous communities in the region, especially those with large tracts of forest, be able to participate in the benefits that the Ucayali REDD+ Jurisdictional Program grants. Also that projects be promoted to improve the physical – legal situation of the lands in native communities.
